Celebrating Harold and Dancy D'Souza's 26 Years Wedding Anniversary

It's been 26 years for Harold and Dancy D'Souza on the journey of marriage. Harold shares the inspiring post below with Weddings Trends.

Wedding is a celebration, Marriage is a commitment, Family is companionship

Behind every successful man, there is a beautiful woman, but behind every happy husband, there is a caring wife.

I believe, arranged marriages are done in heaven, love marriages are done on earth, but to live a happy married life of heaven on earth is in our hands, not God’s.

Dancy and I have been sailing for 9.497 days, 1,352 weeks, 312 months, and 26 years of a happy married life from May 29, 1994.

A wedding is a choice, marriage is a commitment, and the family is companionship. The culture of I, Me, Mine when you are a spinster, bachelor, or single, should flip once you get married. Accept it before thinking of getting married, that on the day of the wedding, everything from I, Me, Mine will be We, Us, Ours. The day you are blessed with an angel in the house to begin your “family” it should be all ‘Yours’ and ‘Ours’. I, Me, Mine should be buried on your wedding day.

Family is about caring not controlling. Practicing the vows taken during your wedding, living it during the marriage is the root of your happiness. If the roots of your marriage are strong no storm can disrupt, shake, break, or uproot it.

Every wedding is perfect, but every married life is imperfect.

Faith in your spouse, trust in your relationship, respect for your family, caring for your kids, and belief in yourself yields fruits of freedom. Change is the key to perfection, correction is the foundation of prosperity, compromise is the solution to all problems. I changed, corrected, and compromised to celebrate a happy married life every day. The day you tell your spouse to change, correct, and compromise is the first step you have taken towards failure. If you fix your failures first, the problem gets fixed by itself.

We were poor starters in our wedding, but strong finishers in our journey of happy married life. Cultivating an imperfect marriage into a perfect family is an art. Family is happiness. Happiness is health, and health is wealth.

Failure in the family is the path to success. Never quit. Look, listen, learn, live, love, and laugh with your family. Ego is the biggest enemy in your family. The day you transform your ego into empathy, the solution to the very problem will be fixed on its own.

In wedding, life is changed, in marriage, life is a challenge, but raising a family in married life, is the reward of happiness enjoyed during your wedding. It’s a full circle. Once you join this circle in your married life, no outside or inside force can break it.

Honestly, in marriage, you cannot clap with one hand. Understanding, listening, caring, learning, and accepting mistakes showers peace. If your spouse stands beside you every problem like a mountain will be a molehill. When your family is friend every stigma is a solution, success, and strength. Family is the foundation of every prosperity.

Marriage counseling changed my life forever. Notably, I happily do the dish washing, cleaning the toilets, unloading all the grocers from the car to the house, keeping the house clean increases the dopamine, and ignites positive energy in the family.

Couples who are happily married for more than 10 years or more should go for marriage classes. This was announced at our Parish a decade back. We immediately up signed for this class. Today our married life is not satisfactory but delightful.

As parents, we never told our kids to do any chores around the house, be it vacuuming, laundry, or cleaning their rooms. We empowered Bradly and Rohan, to aim high, achieve higher, and aspire happiness. These are not in words but in deeds. In 2011, we gifted Bradly with a Toyota PRIUS and in 2014 Rohan with a Toyota Avalon Hybrid brand new cars. Today, Bradly owns a Tesla car, enjoys working for six years at Tesla, and Rohan at Apple. Over a decade ago, Bradly has been managing our family finances - beginning with my salary, Dancy’s pay stubs, Rohan’s income, expenses, paying bills, savings, investments, tithing, credit card payments, traveling, shopping, and freedom to learn from wrong decisions.

Dancy and I never control Rohan and Bradly. We just care for them. We forgive and forget all mistakes, failures, and short comings of our kids. Bradly and Rohan have made mistakes like getting a speeding ticket to name one. We go with Bradly or Rohan to meet the Police Officer to thank him for protecting our child’s life by giving him a ticket. We tell Bradly and Rohan to thank God, as the Police Officer saved your life. Now you’re paying the penalty as a tribute, a reward for saving your life. This changed Bradly and Rohan to be responsible, humble, compassionate, and respect rules and regulations.

Every bill received in our house, beginning from electricity, cell phone, medical, credit cards, to name a few is considered as a blessing. Bradly taught us over a decade ago to write “Thank You” on top of every bill received, the reason he gave us; we should happily pay for the services we received. Moral of the story, we as parents should listen and learn from our kids.

Raising kids brings pleasure, not pain; inspiration, not investment; happiness, not hurt; smile, not sacrifice; enthusiasm, not expense; forgiveness, not failures; and freedom, not fear.

At one point in my life, I failed as a parent, provider, protector, and as a person. My family flipped my four “P’s” into “passion, purpose, prosperity, and prayers”. A family that prays together stays together, a family that struggles together stays together, and a family that accepts failure together stays together.

Dancy and Harold founded a nonprofit organization, Eyes Open International, a 501c3 focused on prevention, education, protection, and empowerment of vulnerable populations globally. Eyes Open International is pleased to announce; Hriday Raval, EOI Regional Director, India and Emil Barr, Vice President Communications.

Things to Note Before Marriage

Unwana Umosen

We are all different people, with different traits and attributes. Sometimes, it could be difficult to live with others and cope with handling conflict. Building a relationship and spending your whole life with someone else takes a lot of patience and understanding. Before saying “I do”, or kneeling to ask “Will You Marry Me?”, you should be absolutely sure you’re making the right decision.

  • Love Yourself: Before understanding someone else’s life and personality, you have to understand and love yourself. Your beliefs, values and what you stand for should guide you in finding the person you want to be with. It is always easier loving yourself before giving love to anyone else because if anything goes wrong, you have YOU to fall back on.
  • Friendship: The first thing you must do is create a room for friendship. Make sure you’re getting married to your friend, someone you’re ready to share experiences with and someone you can laugh with. Friendship is the foundation for every great relationship and it is also very important. You need to be with someone that knows you inside and out, to know what makes you angry and your favorite snack. It will be great spending the rest of your life with your best friend, right?
  • Find beauty beneath pretty: We all know the built guys attract the ladies, and a pretty face makes the men stare. Physical appearance shouldn’t be the primary reason for your feelings! When you get married, you’re going to see the ugliest parts and you will have to stick with it. Your spouse is going to fart, snore, and may look terrible while he/she is asleep. Love that person inside and out, for their personality and behaviors, and not looks.
  • Be prepared to watch your partner change: In about 20 years, your partner would be overwhelmed while coping with kids, a job and having time for you. Marriages are not always rosy, building a family can be stressful. With agreements and negotiations, things will always work out for you and your partner (if you marry your friend, of course!)
  • Understand your partner: Know when to stop an argument that will lead to a long fight. Know when to tease and know when to support. Understand everything about your partner. It always helps to keep a long relationship. Will your partner break up with you instantly if you have to work from another city? What kinds of activities does he/she support? Fears? Strengths? Know everything!

What Would Your Wedding Be Without Vendors?

Unwana Umosen

These days, nobody does their cooking or anything else in-house. Every single detail in a wedding has a professional to take care of it. Take a second and think about how your wedding would be without vendors. Will it be you or your mother doing the cooking? Is your sister going to grab her tiny makeup purse to do your makeup?

1. Food vendors: Gone are the days where jollof rice, beef, and moi-moi made a great wedding menu. People will be there rushing for the amala, gbegiri, and goatmeat, simply because vendors spice things up. At a wedding, you want more than one vendor, for the traditional dishes and intercontinental. Food makes everyone happy at any event, and that’s why it must be done the best way.

2. Music: A bad DJ can mess up any wedding party, and as we all know, music brings life to any party. Some like to have a DJ or a live band, while others might have both.

3. Makeup artist: Makeup artists must attend to the bride from the early hours of the wedding morning and throughout the wedding. They are around to make sure the bride’s face is looking amazing all through, from dabbing sweat and applying more powder, they are always available.

4. Costumers: This is usually for the prim and proper. There are people that want to be styled from their gele, to their wedding dress, and to the after-party. Some couples even have themes for their weddings or would want some particular styles of outfits.

5. The wedding planner: Every big wedding must have a wedding planner. The smaller and lowkey weddings can get away with it, but for a wedding to stand out, it can't do without a wedding planner. They help bring the wishes of the couple to reality and interpret the bride's dreams. They also help bring every other vendor together.

6. Baker: Although nobody knows who actually gets a piece of the wedding cake apart from the family wedding, the baker needs to be professional. It adds up to the theme and craft of the wedding. People still come out to talk about the look of a wedding cake. It still happens!

7. Photographers/ Videographers: Every wedding records a memory, and those memories need to be captured and shared. Photographers and videographers a place for everyone too see what happens during the wedding.

8. Decorators: The decoration is the first thing people see. This is another thing that takes a lot of money apart from the hall and the food. From the walls to the floor, to the tables and cutleries! Decorators can make a raggedy and dry-looking place come alive.

9. Tailors: Be-spoke suits and dresses that are made to wear! These miracle workers create the best outfits for weddings and also develop styles for the couples and even anyone that needs to attend a wedding.

10. Car rentals: People always want to make an entrance with flashy cars they can’t afford. Cruising in with the limos and Rolls Royce after the church wedding. It just adds to the style and swag, and everyone loves it.

What Did You Think About Bridesmaids?

Unwana Umosen

While picking your bridesmaids, make sure you're choosing wisely. As a selected bridesmaid, you have to be ready to make your bride happy at the end of the day. You don't want to pick someone who is uninterested in you or doesn't even want to attend your wedding. At Nigerian weddings, you also need bridesmaids to beautify your entry. Most times, it’s the “bridal train” during the reception that people wait for. While people think that’s what bridesmaids are all about, here’s a disclaimer, that it’s actually more than that.

As a bride,

1. Keep their opinions and feelings in mind
You need all of them to agree with you. You must know if the location of your wedding is convenient for them if the time is great for them and also if they are emotionally stable to even attend your wedding. Ensure that everyone is on the same page, and there’s no bad blood between anyone because there might be chaos when trying to get things in order.

2. Plan on time
Make your wishes known to them on time. Let them know if you want a particular color of shoes for your bridesmaids to wear if you would like a specific hairstyle or a type of jewelry. It is advisable you let them know months before your wedding. This is so that they can decline if they wish, or start preparing if they are down to do as you want.

3. Remember their budgets
You can’t be making demands if you know your bridesmaids don’t have the money to do what you need to achieve. Don’t go to the best fashion designer in your city, and expect them to pay for all of it. Negotiate prices with them for everything that concerns them.

4. Provide for them
Now that they finally agreed to make it to your wedding miles away from their homes, ensure you care about their feeding and shelter. If your wedding is on a low budget, make it known, but still, cater to all of them in every way you can. It’s your responsibility to ensure they have makeup artists, all their dresses ready and everything else. Transportation to the wedding venue is also very essential. You don’t want your bridesmaids running in when your wedding party is already started.

5. Ask politely
Recently, brides share gift boxes and packages to ask their friends (or whoever) to be their bridesmaids. Yes, it’s a big deal! It’s a sign of courtesy and it is very welcoming. Someone who never dreamt of being a bridesmaid might accept just because of the way you made an approach. You need to make your request in the best way possible to get the best answers.

As a bridesmaid,

Remember to make your presence count! You can’t be a silent bridesmaid. The maid of honor/ chief bridesmaid would be in charge of the bridal shower, she needs the bridesmaids to chip in some ideas, help with some errands and make the whole process fun. You may need to add some money as well, but if you’re broke, make it known. Sometimes, the chief bridesmaid handles all the funding or the family of the bride, but always make sure you clarify.

Is Your Wedding Color Important?

Unwana Umosen

Are you confused as to why you have to choose a color for your wedding? Are you tired of people asking what the color theme is for your wedding when you don't have one? This is the place for you! You may be wondering why it seems so important for some couples to choose a color because you just want to say your vows and get going. There are a few things you must know.

First of all, colors portray different things. People like to go for colors that have great meanings: white signifies purity; red shows confidence; blue is for serenity and peace; pink brings a feminine tone to a wedding etc.

However, you may want to go through different reasons why
people make it important for their wedding ceremonies.

Why Are They Important?

1. Your wedding color indirectly says a lot about your personality. It may not seem so, but it does. It always depends on you as a person. However, it represents you as a whole. It is an easy way to understand the kind of person you are from your wedding.

2. It sets a tone and mood: Your choice of colors creates a mood for your wedding. It also has a great way of inviting your guests. It could create a happy, calm or wild tone for your event. For example, gold is usually chosen for a sense of royalty and class, as yellow is for sunshine and happiness.

3. Organization and aesthetics:
Your wedding scenery would look pleasing as soon as it has a color theme. Having a variety of colors makes it look disorganized. Colors are more inviting and it shows a sense of welcoming and well-planning for your wedding ceremony. You can decide to go simple and choose just one color, but it’s totally your choice.

Steps to Choosing your Colors

1. Put your standards in mind

If you personally don’t like bright colors, you could go for a black-tie event. It’s absolutely you to decide, but it has to be something your spouse agrees with. Most people think of their wedding colors a long time before the wedding, so everyone should have an idea of what they want their wedding to look like.

2. Practice research
Look through a variety of magazines, pictures, and posts for inspiration. Many times, during the planning process of a wedding, there are a series of choices made before landing at a conclusion. Ensure you go through all options till you finally decide. Don’t forget to work with time, because your color sets the theme for how your wedding invitation may look like and your decorations.

3. Try choosing your color according to your location
Bright colors always look better outdoors. They bring out the decorations to blend with nature and make the wedding beautiful. Colors like gold and black look great indoors. Also, if you’re looking to have great lighting at your event, pink or purple would be fantastic.

Colors bring life to your wedding, so enjoy picking what you want. However, do not forget to make the right decisions and consult your wedding planner if you’re confused at any point.

4 Tips for Renting Your Wedding Dress

Unwana Umosen

Ladies plan their weddings to be the most memorable day of their lives. They would want to look back twenty years later and tell the story of what it took to get that wedding dress. Not just with pictures, but the jewelry, shoes and the dress!

However, buying a dress costs a lot of money. If you are getting married on a budget, renting dresses is an easy way out. Now that you’re not getting a dress customized for you, there are a few things you must know.

1. Search for your dress on time:

Beautiful rented dresses are scarce. You don’t want to get to the best rental shop and realize that the dress that caught your eye online, is no longer available. Always have the upper hand in every situation. Trust me, you may not be the only one wedding that weekend, neither will you be the only one renting a dress.

2. Be careful during your reception:

You can be excited you got a great bargain. You can dance all you want during your reception because your wedding was a huge success and you’re getting married to your best friend. However, you don’t want to dance so much and mistakenly rip the dress or destroy it totally. You will pay for that damage, and that is an extra debit from your bank account, which you didn’t plan for. It only brings back the nightmare of the spending money buying a new dress.

3. Ensure to try it on before making payments:

Do not rush the process. Your wedding dress is what will appear in the pictures throughout. It will be left hanging on the wall in your sitting room and resting by the table in your bedroom. You don’t want to take all those pictures down because you hated how you looked in your wedding dress. Make sure the dress fits properly and it has no issues. When you’re absolutely sure and ready to pay, then you’re good to go.

4. Do not be too expectant:

Renting a dress is way cheaper than buying one, but don’t expect the price to be extremely low. You can’t rent a good dress at the price of a regular jumpsuit. It just doesn’t work that way. So, keep it in mind that just because you must have heard renting a dress is way cheaper, you may not get it as cheap as you expected.

5. You can’t have it your way:

Most dresses, have been worn by others and were customized for others. When looking to rent a dress, have an open mind to different styles. If you want your wedding dress a specific way, you need to remind yourself that you don’t have the money for that kind of luxury.

Many ladies get lucky to rent wonderful dresses and look amazing for their wedding. Note these tips and you won’t regret it. Enjoy the renting process!

Is Your Wedding About You or Your Parents?

Unwana Umosen

Tayo always dreamed about a destination wedding. She wanted her wedding outdoors as well, so she started praying against bad weather while she was in university. It seemed hilarious to her friends but she knew what she wanted. That was how bad Tayo thought about her wedding. She was the firstborn of her family and was expected to get married first.

Finally, while she was getting a master’s degree in Abuja, she got engaged. Excited to get married, she was also the first getting married in her family. It was time to live the dream she always imagined.

It was time to plan the wedding. Her parents talked her out of traveling for the wedding. For the traditional marriage, her mother was so excited, she said they had to go to their hometown. Tayo was avoiding most of her extended family members and she hated the idea. She hated it more because of the budget. She disliked the fact that her parents were willing to spend so much money to impress people she wasn’t even familiar with. She was disappointed they didn't use that money to have the wedding in another country.

Her parents imposed that it was part of the tradition and she had to do it their way. Through various family meetings, she had to agree.

She contracted a wedding planner for her white wedding, who was her friend from school. Tayo let her know everything she wanted in detail. She and her husband agreed they wanted a simple black-tie event, strictly by invitation, and with a maximum of 200 people. She planned a quick ceremony and a lovely after-party.

She told her parents what she was going to do and they forbade it. Tayo was frustrated trying to wrestle with her parents. They were funding the wedding, and therefore, she realized the wedding was theirs and not hers.

The reception hall was filled with friends of her mother and family members she had never spoken to. The live band was top-notch to them and the hall was emitting Yoruba culture. It was everything she didn’t want. She had no control over it and she had to force herself to enjoy the wedding.

She had a successful after-party when the old people -including her parents- had gone home. She warned her younger siblings to take their minds off making decisions for their own weddings, because many Nigerian parents take control of your wedding, as long as they are paying for it.

Can a long-distance relationship work?

Unwana Umosen

After a long year of searching, you finally find someone you love. But during your relationship, your partner gets an opportunity, to study or work in another country or city. What do you do?

It is going to be frustrating, dealing with the reality that your partner would be away for a long while. You go around seeking advice from different people on what to do and they all have different things to say. “Long-distance is another word for self-deceit”, “You will still cheat at the end of the day”, “How can you date someone you won’t see for such a long time?”.

People won’t stop saying negative things concerning your situation. However, long-distance relationships take consistency and self-control, and not everyone can go through it. They can only be successful when two parties are willing to make it work. Many couples have a mutual understanding and break up because of the circumstance. They are blunt and sincere with themselves and decide to call it off. Meanwhile, some other couples make it through, no matter how long the wait is.

If you are still hanging on the edge, trying to make a decision, there are valid points you need to take note of. This will help you think it through. Relationships take about two months to realize if they want to call it off or keep pushing.

· Communication is key

It is important that you speak to your partner every day. No matter how busy you are, even the time difference doesn’t change a thing. Always leave a message if he/she is unavailable. Let them know your every move; what you’re doing and what you’re up to. It brings a sense of belonging and peace. It reduces the chances of trust issues and overthinking.

· Trust

A relationship without trust is on a highway to many problems. Relationships are built on trust. One of the major fears of being in a long-distance relationship is losing your partner to someone else. Discouraging thoughts may settle in your mind, concerning new friends and new people your partner gets used to. It is always best to discuss whatever bothers you.

· Embrace the use of technology

We don’t have to wait months for that raven to come over at your porch with a handwritten note from your lover. It’s the modern age, where online calls, video calls, and social media exist. If your partner is a thousand miles away, you can always reach the person just by internet connection. Technology has made it easier for communication t be fun and easy. Make use of it and it will go a long way helping you and your relationship.

· Be distinct

In whatever way you can, do something new to spice up your relationship. Always keep it in mind that it’s the little things that matter. Surprise your partner when it is least expected, either with a visit or a gift. Video call them while you’re at a party, if possible, on a roller coaster. Make memories last even when your miles away.

· Have a goal

The wait is always easier when you are planning a future together. If that is the main aim of your relationship, then you will have something to look forward to. If you and your partner are on the same page, the distance wouldn’t seem so long anymore.

Long-distance relationships seem to be difficult, but with two consistent people, it will be a success.

The Hectic Life of a Wedding Planner

Unwana Umosen

Wedding planners bring a dream wedding to life, just like a director. A wedding planner is needed for the success of any wedding because neither the bride nor groom would handle all the plans for their wedding. Nobody wants to look their best at a wedding party, going to make sure all is in order. Therefore, the wedding planner does all the work.

Being a wedding planner is tough, and it isn’t something you’ve not heard before. If you are looking to become a wedding planner, these are five things you need to know.

1. Beware of clashing families
We all hear stories of the mothers of the bride and groom hate each other for some unknown reason. In most Nigerian homes, conflicts are centered around wealth, religion or tribes. At this point, it is an obvious competition between the two homes and in all this, the wedding planner at the center. It can be pathetic to watch, but it definitely happens.

2. Some clients will want to eat their cake and have it

Simply put, clients will want a large wedding with a tight budget. They request for the glamorous decorations, catering services with all kinds of food and a large hall. They want to have the kind of weddings they see on the internet but forget it takes a lot of money to achieve. The wedding planner is then required to find the cheaper vendors that offer great quality, and negotiate. which is quite difficult. These are clients who have a tight budget but are looking for the best vendors.

3. Inconsistent vendors
Be it decorators or catering services, they are all likely to disappoint. They make futile promises and show their previous jobs to woo you. On the wedding day, it’s always a different story. as a wedding planner, you will have to deal with this because the blame will be on you. Clients will start to question your work and it can be heartbreaking. At that point, you will have to deal with the transferred aggression from your clients and it could get worse.

4. Playing the psychologist role
In many cases, the bride is always the victim of fear. Your bride will think she has herself together, till the morning of the wedding. She gets nervous and starts to ask you questions you may not even have answers to. This is your part and your job, and if you don’t have an answer to her questions, you will have to find one. You’ll need to have the right words to say to make sure she is calm and prepared for the ceremony.

5. Professionalism
Your business must be kept professional, even if the bride is your best friend. Once those boundaries aren’t set, a lot could go wrong. From the budget to deadlines and the list goes on. Professionalism helps you avoid familiarity and facilitates an excellent job at the end of the day.

Congratulations to Dancy and Harold D'Souza on 25 Years Wedding Anniversary!

Weddings Trends is glad to celebrate Dancy and Harold D'Seouza, one of our previously featured couples on this platform for reaching a new milestone in their marriage. The couple is celebrating 25 years wedding anniversary.

Below is the article and pictures submitted by the groom to celebrate their Silver Anniversary.

Wedding is a choice, marriage is a commitment

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. Truly said by Helen Keller. Similarly, wedding is not about flaunting, marriage is not about controlling, but happiness should be felt in the heart.

If wedding is wealth then marriage is health, but the pure Kohinoor of a family, is the wife, who is the true wealth, health, and happiness.

Wedding is a choice, marriage is a commitment and cultivating a family is happiness. Wedding is an event, but marriage gives you an opportunity to live your dreams. Wedding can be compared to external beauty, but marriage to the internal beauty of understanding, respect and forgiveness.

Seems such a short time that Dancy and I are celebrating 9131 days, 300 months and 25 years of companionship on May 29, 2019. Ours is an arranged marriage, turning obstacles into opportunities, pain to pleasure, sickness to sunshine, fights to friendship, ego to empathy, control to caring, trauma to trust and fear to faith.

Wedding is a creation of passion. Marriage develops purpose, but family generates power. Relationship should never lead to a short-term infatuation, but a marriage of lifelong happiness.

Happy marriage is all about communication, trust, faith, transparency, forgiveness, and understanding.

Our journey through marriage is built on seven principles of trust, love, care, forgiveness, respect, faith, and freedom. The day we got married, it was never “I” or “ME” it was always “WE”. The moment we were blessed with Bradly and Rohan our “WE” got transformed to “OURS”. We always addressed ourselves as “The D’Souza Family”. We believe in practicing not preaching. We live our lives by caring for each other not controlling. We focus on fixing the problem not the blame.

At a very young age, Bradly and Rohan were groomed on four principles in life, value, character, faith, and finance. Engaging, educating, encouraging, enlightening and empowering Bradly and Rohan was our mission in life.

Respecting, recognizing and rewarding my wife Dancy in private and public is the simple secret to a cheerful married life. We always reason out our differences never argue. We look, listen, learn, love and laugh as a family. Whenever I make a mistake, I apologize to my wife and sons with compassion. I believe making a mistake is not a mistake, making no mistake is a mistake, repeating a mistake is a big mistake, but learning from your mistakes to live a happy life is never a mistake.

Attending marriage counselling classes will change your life from satisfying to delighting your spouse. I believed marriage counselling is only for couples having differences, problems, and frictions. I was absolutely wrong. Marriage counselling programs are informative, inspiring and incredible. We attended a few marriage enhancing programs. In my first program, I gained a million-dollar tip on how to keep your wife delighted not satisfied. Small things like after coming from grocery shopping, tell your wife to go inside the house happily and you carry all the groceries inside. Doing the dishes, laundry, chores and vacuuming especially when your wife is not at home. I was a zero before I attended the program but today, I am proud to say I am a hero in these matters.

Believe it or not, we never celebrated birthdays, anniversary days or exchanged gifts on any of these auspicious dates. We live our lives like every day is birthday, Christmas, Diwali or Thanksgiving day. Whenever the need arises, we just do it.

Dancy said, “A family that prays together stays together, and a family that eats together stays together.”

I believe, “WIFE” means; wonderful inspiration for ever and not worries invited forever.

Wedding is a choice, marriage is a commitment, so divorce should not be a solution nor an option. Marriage is always about a WIN-WIN situation. The best way a father can express his love for his children is to love their mother. It’s always supporting each other on strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats.

Focus on companionship not marriage, focus on delighting not satisfying, focus on caring not controlling, focus on ours not mine, focus on wife not life, then happiness is forever.

Marriage is a journey, not a destination. Like running a marathon, it does not matter whether you crawl, walk, jog, or run. It’s not all about winning the race, it’s about finishing it. Hence, marriage is not about winning or losing. Love, enjoy, relish, and respect your married life. Most newlyweds start strongly but finish poorly. God bless all newlyweds and married couples forever.

5 wedding dresses with detachable skirts

Olaoluwa Olowu

A unique wedding dress is every bride's ultimate dream. No one wants to walk down the aisle in a dress that looks like every other wedding dress in the catalogues. Although the search for the perfect dress and/or the perfect designer can be exhausting, most brides don't mind the stress if it means they'll be wearing a one-of-a-kind dress when they say 'I do.'

Today, a lot of brides shop for two wedding dresses— one for the wedding ceremony and the second for the reception. It is an obvious fact that not every wedding dress allows the bride to dance comfortably but, buying two gowns could be a huge budget sinker because of how expensive wedding gowns have become.

If you're stuck in this position where you know you need two gowns but you're being held back by your budget, then we have the perfect solution for you – a convertible wedding dress! This is basically a wedding dress that has two different styles, usually a sheath or a short reception dress with an overskirt that turns it into a ball gown for the wedding ceremony.

Getting a convertible dress will be a lifesaver for your budget while ensuring that you have the best of both worlds! Removable skirts are dramatic yet romantic and above all, they create two completely different wedding day looks with just one dress!
We've listed 5 types of wedding dresses with detachable skirts below so check them out and see which fits your idea of the perfect dress for you wedding!

Short wedding dress
Like short wedding dresses but want a more formal look for the wedding ceremony? Try a short gown with an overskirt. These are usually chic dresses with different styles of necklines and a flowing detachable skirt. You can have the overskirt made to look very full, giving it a ball gown look and when it's time to party at the reception, you can easily detach it and swipe your heels for something more party style.

Sheath Wedding Dress
This type of two-in-one dress will definitely highlight your curves in the best angles, with an overskirt or a detachable skirt it is the perfect idea for a wedding ceremony. You can have a dress with lace material or a plain dress with embroidery, or both, with different necklines. As for the skirt – it’s often a tulle overskirt that makes the real one not seen, so everyone thinks that you are wearing an A-line gown. When it is time for the reception, you can simply remove it and stun everyone in your new dress. Another option is to cover the whole dress, not only the skirt, with a cape so that when you take it off you’ll really have two different gowns!

Mermaid wedding dress
Similar to the sheath wedding dress, this style adapts a slim fit in the torso and maintains it to a few inches below or above mid-thigh. For the wedding ceremony, you can add a detachable skirt to a shorter mermaid dress which can be easily remover for the reception. Plus, you can use the original skirt as a part and add a detachable skirt, so the dress looks more impressive and layered. You can also decide that the overskirt or a detachable skirt is made to match the dress, so nobody will be able to guess that it’s a detachable piece.

Dresses with a Slit front
Another lovely way to rock a wedding dress with a detachable skirt is to do it with an overskirt that has a slit, which will show off your legs. Some detachable skirt designs feature overskirts that reveal your legs and your short dress slightly and this becomes quite fashionable when mixed with pockets, beading which would definitely fit a modest ceremony. When it's time for the reception you can easily slip off the over skirt and stun your guests in a new style
.
High-low dresses
This is one of the most exciting ways to wear a detachable skirt for your wedding dress. Rather than having the full over skirt cover your legs completely for the formal ceremony then detach the entire thing afterwards, you can make a half detachable skirt. As you get ready for your reception party, you can just detach the front of the over skirt so it will transform your beautiful wedding dress into a beautiful high-low reception dress!
With a two-for-one dress you can easily switch up your look from the wedding ceremony to the reception party. Begin the day with a fuller silhouette for the wedding vows, and end it with a sleeker style that's just right for dancing!

Wedding on a Budget Ideas

Olaoluwa Olowu

A wedding ceremony should be a celebration of love, not an avenue to break the bank. However, most people have taken the scale up a few absurd notches and the current trend in weddings are lavish and extravagant.
The average cost of a wedding ceremony globally is equivalent to half the price of a Porsche Cayenne- Crazy, right?
Planning your wedding must be head tightening as you try to weigh the different available options in order to pick what's best, fits your budget and still stays within the trending styles. One thing you must however remember is that the we ding is YOURS, not the guests. So you shouldn't try to fit into their expectations of what it should be like.
If you're working without a blank check for your wedding, then that's completely okay. It doesn't mean you wouldn't have a beautiful ceremony and a memorable reception.
Simple and sweet is always warm and very memorable so you really don't need to be lavish if you're working with a budget.
We've highlighted some ideas that will help you create the perfectly beautiful wedding to celebrate your love while making sure you don't go bankrupt.

Budget
This is the core of any wedding because it determines every other aspect of the wedding planning process.
Before you begin drafting a budget, decide on the total amount you wish to spend so you have a form of bracket to streamline your expenses. On your budget, make sure to include only things which you can't get unless you pay for them, that is, unavoidable expenses.
Creating a budget is one thing, sticking to it strictly is another and of more importance.

Wedding outfits
The wedding dress, jewelry and other accessories actually cost a lot more than is expected, same for the groom's attire.
So to cut your costs, have a member of your family or a friend who has knowledge and passion for designing create a beautiful wedding dress for you.
An alternative to this is renting the outfit for the bride, groom and the bridal train. It is incomparably cheaper than buying while making sure your day turns out as beautiful as you dreamed.

Venue

Perhaps your fantasy wedding takes place in an elaborately designed hall with all the works from chandeliers to expensive background. Regardless, you need to know that you can have a beautiful wedding reception with much less expense.
Also, you don't have to have a destination wedding if your wedding is on a budget. You can use a pocket friendly events  hall and adorn it with beautiful decorations. If your preference is an  outdoor wedding, you can make use of a backyard or your local beach.

Menu
Catering for a large crowd at your reception can be a huge weight on your budget. So instead of inviting everyone you know, just make it a cozy affair so that you can cater for them well – whilst staying within the budget lines.
Your favorite local restaurant can be the alternative to hiring a caterer for your wedding reception. You just have to ensure that the dishes on the menu are creative, tasty and low priced.
Always remember to negotiate for the best prices you can get for any goods or services and be careful to avoid hidden charges.

Entertainment
The Master of Ceremony (MC) is another underrated expense in wedding planning.
Rather than pay a huge amount for a MC, have a family friend or relative who is good with words and has a good sense of humor do the job.  A local DJ or upcoming band is also a perfect replacement instead of hiring a high-end band to perform.
Also, if you don't want to deal with the expense of hiring a DJ or band, you can simply put up a deck with a playlist of popular songs.
