Electricity and good sewing machine repairers pose challenges to designer

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Ogunmola Anuoluwapo. I am a Nigerian from Oyo State. I am a fashion lover, business oriented person, and a die-hard God lover.

What informed the idea of House of fancy?
I love tailored clothes. I used to buy fabrics and give to tailors, but many times, the tailors are unable to put life into my designs, so I decided to learn at a fashion school. After the training, I started making clothes for myself. People liked the clothes that I made to wear. They started placing orders. People’s love for my tailored clothes, actually, gave birth to House of Fancy.

How long have you been designing clothes?
Well, I have been designing clothes for about seven years but started House of Fancy in 2013.

Who are your customers?
My customers are women in all sizes.

Do you design wedding dresses for brides or you design for brides and grooms?
Yes, I design wedding dresses for brides and I have designed and tailored a few. House of Fancy doesn’t cater to the male gender yet, but very soon, we will.

What are the challenges you experience as a designer in Nigeria?
Wow! The challenges are countless, but to mention two – electricity and good machine repairers.

Any word of advice for interested designers or upcoming designers?
Yes. I will say, remain focused and be opened to continuous learning. In addition, give listening ears to critiques and customers complaints.

Do you have any last words?
Always believe in yourself, work hard, and trust in God.
